Summary/Abstract: The social studies course, in which the subjects of social sciences disciplines are given in accordance with the level of the student since basic education and the main purpose is to raise active citizens, has experienced many developmental periods in the historical process. It is known that until 1916, when social studies officially emerged in the United States, courses such as history and geography related to social sciences were given in various parts of the world. In 1916, the Social Studies course emerged in the United States of America, in which subjects related to social sciences were integrated with an interdisciplinary approach. Social and political developments in the world had a significant impact on the transition from a single-disciplinary course understanding such as history and geography to a multi-disciplinary or interdisciplinary approach. In this study, the historical development of the Social Studies course will be examined in the context of the developmental process in the United States, where it first emerged.
