Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to examine the mother motif from a psychoanalytic point of view through the examples frequently used in Turkish tales. In this study, while examining the mother motif, the psychoanalytic views of Carl Gustav Jung, the founder of archetypal criticism theory, and Melanie Klein, the founder of the object relations school, were used. The concept of archetype has an important place in Jungian psychology. Some of the archetypes that Jung dealt with are anima, animus, shadow, persona, self, old wise man archetypes. The mother archetype has a two-pronged structure in Jungian psychology. The first terminal of the archetype shows a positive trait. This archetype reflects the mother's protective, caring and compassionate side. The other end of the archetype shows a negative quality. These negative qualities point to the mother who swallows, chokes and scares. In Klein psychology, the relations between mother and child were handled around the concepts of good breast and bad breast. It is the main argument of Klein psychology that the concepts of good breast and bad breast are the result of the introjection of the mother's breast, which is the child's first object of love and envy. Accordingly, the child's view of the mother passes through two basic periods. These are the paranoid-schizoid period and the depressive period. In the article, mother motifs, examples of which are seen in Turkish fairy tales, are discussed within the framework of these periods determined by Klein and Jung's archetype concept.
