Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the activities of prominent Russian émigré Nadězda Filaretovna Melnikova-Papoušková at Palacký University in Olomouc in the second half of the 1940s. Based on archival materials, the author describes the circumstances under which Melniková-Papoušková became part of the renewed university and what was the main subject of her research. Emphasis is placed on both pedagogical and organizational activities that led to the establishment of the Institute for Folk Culture and Moravian Ethnography. Practical study of folklore is also related to the theoretical works that were published by Melniková-Papoušková in 1940s. Their significance for folklore studies at that time and today is analysed in the second part of the study. In addition, the reasons that led to the author’s transition from literary topics to the study of contemporary folk art are also described.
