Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the learning and teaching of Polish as a foreign language based on the lexical and grammatical similarities between Polish and East Slavic languages. After an introduction to the theoretical scope of the research, the article presents the results of an empirical project aiming to describe the acquisition sequence of selected Polish morphosyntactic structures and identify the effect of the learners’ L1 (Slavic vs. non-Slavic). The discussion pays particular attention to the language teaching application of the acquisitional insights produced by the research. In particular, questions related to the exploitation of cross-linguistic transfer to enhance the acquisition process are discussed in relation to the need to facilitate the linguistic integration of Ukrainian refugees into Polish society in the context of the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
