Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to show reportage as a genre of speech to be used in teaching Polish as a foreign language in the context of genre studies. The author assumes that reportage used in teaching Polish to foreigners, besides the realization of the main illocutions of the genre, contributes to the development or evaluation of learner’s language skills and acquisition of intercultural competence. The genre will be described using the concept of genre pattern by Maria Wojtak, including structural, pragmatic, cognitive and stylistic aspects, accomplished in the canon form, alternative versions or adaptive variants. Reportage turns out to be a genre with a structure showing a weakened conventionality and highly diversified themes. The intention of reportage authors is a comprehensive and suggestive presentation of facts, and their themes include a wide scope of events from social, political and cultural life. The texts are objective, imaginative, emotional and multi-styled. The sender shows different points of view but also his own personality. The article presents examples of reportage, coming from collections by Ryszard Kapuściński, as well as practical guidelines helpful in teaching Polish as a foreign language.
