Summary/Abstract: The social market economy is based on a balanced relationship between labour and capital, a relationship maintained thanks to a complex and comprehensive regulatory system, implemented by a multitude of institutions with a mediating function between the partners of social dialogue. In the European economic area, social peace is closely linked to the effectiveness of tripartite dialogue, which includes employers, trade unions and public authorities.
