Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses various ways of teaching essay structure. The emphasis is on the development of a system of practical exercises aimed at developing students’ abilities in writing a good introduction, body and conclusion of an essay. Key elements in teaching essay structure refer to the writing of thesis state¬ment, topic sentences and inductive and deductive paragraphs.
