Summary/Abstract: In this study, it is aimed to explain the effects of trade wars, which are mostly caused by new protectionism practices, on the world economy. In this direction, an empirical model is created using the SVAR analysis for the period of 1990-2020. Application findings show that new protectionism tools and policies have permanent effects on world trade in the short term; however, these effects disappear in the long term. Trade wars have no winners. If the main goal, in the long run, is to increase welfare in the world economy, new protectionism practices, that have negative effects on world trade, should be avoided.
