Summary/Abstract: This article departs from the assumption that the main task of teaching writing is to introduce students to the culture of literacy, which requires them to have mastered the written form in their L1. The analyses of written texts produced by pupils enable to recognize imperfections at the level of the language and style component, including lexical and grammatical errors, and to reveal problems with the use of written form in some aspects beyond accuracy. With this information in hand, the teacher can adapt their teaching of writing in the phase of reviewing pupils‘ successive versions of their own texts to develop pupil’s linguistic competence.
