Summary/Abstract: The paper demonstrates that the typologies of documentary fi lm made over time contribute signifi cantly both to the enrichment of specialized literature, and to the creative inspiration of documentary fi lmmakers. I started from the well-known classifi cations of the documentary fi lm, such as that of Bill Nichols, according to the ways of visual representation of some aspects of reality, and from those made according to the editing types of the documentary fi lm, with the use of footage from the front of the place or with archive images, up to the typologies of the documentary depending on the theme addressed or the purpose of the message transmitted and the participatory documentary, or the virtual non-fi ction.The paper demonstrates that the typologies of documentary film made over time contribute significantly both to the enrichment of specialized literature, and to the creative inspiration of documentary filmmakers.
