Summary/Abstract: Ethnophyletism (religious nationalism) is a real temptation in contemporary pastoral practice, but it should not lead to denial of nationhood. It is, however, a danger of collective egoism that stands on shaky basis of origin and belonging, which significantly slows down the creation of God-like personhood and community. It is also necessary to differentiate between ecclesial catholicity and ethnic associations. If we succeed to change ourselves by the means of self-criticism, then we will be able to make things better in the world. We will become engaged and understanding people, thus realizing Biblical imperative of serving everyone (Matthew 20: 26–27).
