Summary/Abstract: The article identifies the pairs of prototypes in the Lives of Cyril and Methodius and discusses their role in the commemoration of the Thessaloniki brothers. There are Old Testament, New Testament and patristic pairs of archetypes included in the lives of the saints. A special connection of the two hagiographic texts with the “Epitaph for Basil the Great”, written by Gregory the Theologian is commented on in connection with the pairs of prototypes. The presented pairs of prototypes and the indicated intertextual connections testify to a certain conceptual consistency between the two extensive lives, which shows the hagiographic competence and is a sign of a common strategy and continuity among Old Bulgarian biographers.
