Summary/Abstract: The paper attempts to address certain challenges accompanying research work at the meeting point of anthropology and political science. The presented reflections are based on experience gained during fieldwork conducted in 2005–2019 in the Peruvian Andes and, starting from 2022 year, in Colombia. The main body of the paper presents evolution of my perceptions about undertaken research problems before and after confronting them with field knowledge, i.e. with contexts arising from coexistence with the researched communities. In the conclusion, I attempt to answer the question of what the search for understanding between the disciplines represented in the paper can consist of and lead to.
