Summary/Abstract: From its very beginning, the rebuilding of the Royal Castle in Warsaw was to be financed by voluntary contributions and donations, and supported by the work of the whole society. The article attempts to present and systematise the statements of the contribution of work received by the Civil Committee for Rebuilding of the Royal Castle (OKOZK). Due to the issue comprehensiveness, the subject of this study has been narrowed down to community work subordinate to one of the OKOZK committees: the Commission for Social Actions. Individual examples serve to discuss the declarations concerning the preparation of documentation, contracting, services, supervision, and unskilled labour. The article deliberately omits other forms of community work to raise money for the reconstruction fund, such as artists’ donations of their fees, organising auctions, collecting raw materials, etc., focusing instead on the social work undertaken to improve the Commission’s activities or the functioning of the OKOZK Office. This article is part of the doctoral dissertation being prepared on the history and activities of the Civil Committee for Rebuilding of the Royal Castle in Warsaw.
