Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of this article is an analysis of relation between nonprofit sector and social safety understood as a need which should be satisfied. The article starts with defining the influence of nonprofit organizations in the social safety system. The main thesis is that nonprofit sector is more dynamic and flexible than public sector especially in the area of needs which are reported by society. This thesis leads to a statement that it is justified for nonprofit sector to get donations to realize its goals. Basic research methodology used in the paper is the analysis of donations – national and European Union programmes.
