Summary/Abstract: Established in the 19th century, the company M. Kempinski & Co. is an example ofa business enterprise very clearly corresponding with deep sociocultural changes in Wroclaw of the time. Its activities not only left a deep mark on the local wine and gastronomy sector, but also – through the ventures of Berthold, one of the Kempinski brothers – earned permanent recognition in the capital city of Berlin. Also the older brother, Moritz, operating primarily in Wroclaw, rendered considerable services to the development of the whole enterprise, which over time became a wine and gastronomy brand known everywhere in Germany. Business intuition and skills, creativity and courage of the Jewish brothers from Greater Poland resulted not only in creating a very prosperous company, but also in outlining modern business strategy for enterprises of this kind in general in Germany, from selecting the assortment, through well-thought-out setting of the target group, to daring and bold marketing techniques. For the Kempinski brothers, their business activities meant significant profits, for their clients from Wroclaw and Berlin – an opportunity to acquire original wine and gastronomy products of high quality. The long history of the company is also another proof showing that the 19th century Wroclaw was a good place to turn the tables, not only in business, but also in politics or in artistic circles, and then gain fame and have substantial career in whole Germany.
