Summary/Abstract: For the Jewish-American philosopher born in Germany, Hans Jonas (1903 - 1993), the twentieth century presented humanity with a new problem; while in history technology depended on human power (ie the creation of tools and their use), in the twentieth century technology and its effects enter a new sphere where it is not possible to fully control them. People have become, as Jonas called them, "finally freed Prometheus", beings to whom science and technology have given unprecedented strength. Technology has gained the widest scope and magnitude that it has ever had in human history, and its effects exceed the life of an individual, and even the life span of our civilization. Because of this, the actions of an individual or a small group can have consequences all over the world, in the near and far future. Traditional ethics almost completely ignored this problem, which became urgent after the Second World War.
