Summary/Abstract: The aim of this text is to present an interesting topic that will reveal two institutions from the Topkapı Palace of the Ottoman Empire. Two schools were designed to educate the future rulers of the empire. On the one hand, Topkapı Palace is the center from which a huge empire is ruled, but at the same time, it is also the home of the Sultan family. The palace also served as a school where the children of the sultan and the future governors of the empire were educated. The paper will introduce the structure of the Ottoman palace and the reader can gain a basic idea of what lies behind the fortress walls and huge gates of the Topkapi during the XV-XVIII century. In this period the Enderun and Harem acquired their classical form. Since the beginning of the XIX century, major changes have occurred in the Ottoman palace. The Enderun ceased to exist and gave way to secular schools that sprung up throughout the empire. The harem continued to exist as a women’s ward until the XX century, but not in its classical form.
