Summary/Abstract: Institutional theory can be described as an attempt to explain how organizations behave in relation to different types of institutional processes. Particularly institution-based, this theory is part of organizational research with an interest in organization and organization. Unlike previous organizational research, institutional theory distances itself from the assumption that organizations would be rational actors. Instead, the organization’s behaviour is explained based on prevailing institutional frameworks, environmental pressures, and the organization’s quest for legitimacy. Institutions have a central place in institutional theory. They are considered the result of our social reality, i.e. it can be said that they are a construction of human action. There is no single definition of an institution. Different components have different weights depending on where they are in institutional research. Institutions can be said to be slow to grow and long-lasting and the reason for that are that the idea of them is shared by a group of people. Actions that develop into institutionalized ones must be recognized and then inherited. However, institutional theory does not mean that institutions are something eternal. It is something that the collective shares and maintains, but it can also bring the collective into question, and that can further lead to its transformation. Based on attempts to analyze and understand institutions, it is possible to understand different processes in society. Institutional theory mainly deals with the study of various forms of change in organizations, but also that the behaviour of the organization must be understood on the basis of existing institutional frameworks. This is also influenced by the pressure that can occur inside and outside the organization. Change is therefore key to considering an organization and organization. Within institutional theory, other theoretical perspectives developed, neoinstitutional theory, and then the so-called Scandinavian institutional theory developed from it. The paper aims to explain and show the difference between institutional theory and Scandinavian institutional theory. Also, the paper presents the difference between the early, new institutional and Scandinavian orientation.
