Summary/Abstract: The aim of this work is to find out how language works and what forms it takes in the field of public communication. The peculiarity of public communication in modern society is reflected in several language strategies, such as the use of metaphors and symbols, politically correct language or euphemisms, dysphemisms, (re)naming and modification of existing names, toponyms. Such linguistic phenomena in communication are increasingly the subject of contemporary semantic, pragmalinguistic, sociolinguistic and discourse research. Public communication is related to language politics in a given context and thus includes social surveillance, censorship and normed social situations. The article analyzes three texts on the subject of the refugee crisis that stand in different (media) contexts. Here it is assumed that singular texts are always part of a larger linguistic-communicative social context, which can then be understood as a discourse.
