Summary/Abstract: The issue of free will in Buddhism is fundamental for the doctrine of karman, although the great Buddhist philosophers (Nāgārjuna, Vasubandhu) did not study this issue in detail, considering the existence of the free will an axiom. The paradox lies in the fact that according to the doctrine of selflessness (anattā) there is no real subject which could be the base for acts of free will (and consciousness) which forms the karman. The article suggests solutions to resolve this issue.
