IVO BANAC: REMINISCENCES

Summary/Abstract: It is an honor and a pleasure to spend some time remembering my long relationship with my friend and colleague Ivo Banac. I knew him for a period of some fifty years, since the late 1960s, when he came to Stanford to work with Prof Wayne S. Vucinich. I was already at Stanford as a graduate student and we quickly became friends and together enjoyed the rich environment on campus in those days for studying Russia, Eastern Europe, and the Balkans. The library resources, the fabulous Hoover Archives, and the large and vibrant community of scholars and students made Stanford a real hub of Balkan studies in the United States.
