Summary/Abstract: In Why is it good for us to go to the theatre to see that it is wrong for others? About the performance of foreign dramas, the author Imre D. Magyari presents forty-four foreign dramas, with the unique authorial gesture of choosing from plays performed between 2016 and 2020, mostly in Budapest theatres, not as a theatre critic but as a Hungarian language teacher and theatre enthusiast spectator. The writings in this volume are sometimes expanded, sometimes slightly edited versions of his analyses published in Criticai Lapok since 2015. In the volume, the drama and performance analyses are presented in chronological order according to the plays’ date of creation: forming a kind of subjective drama history. The nearly fifty dramatic analyses are a unique combination of several text types, thus, at the same time they offer a description of a performance (lacking the technicality of analysis), a synopsis, a dramatic analysis, a dramatic interpretation, and sometimes essays on theatre or cultural history. If the author’s intentions are well understood, the dramatic interpretations would really be put into practice in teaching, so the volume would be intended as a reference book/source of ideas for teachers.
