Summary/Abstract: In this paper we tried to determine the outlines of theatrical space, according to the fact that the theatre is, par excellence, an art of time and space. The moment it escapes the textual dimension in order to become a performance, this enrolls into an irreversible temporality and spatiality that disappears as soon as the performance ends. In order to exist, the performance needs an organized space, clearly defined rules that vary from one theatrical period to another. The theatrical space is characterized by an encrypted feature established by the stage practices that are specific to each and every period and space, making the modern spectator unaware of this fact while he is accustomed to the diversity of scenic space. We stand in front of a social and aesthetic determinism and for the modern spectator, the theatrical space varies in accordance to scenic data following the path of the successive patterns inherited from those involved in theatrical performance on the one hand, and on the other hand, in accordance to the place and stage configuration and the use of different elements.
