Summary/Abstract: This paper reviews two of Silviu Purcărete’s most important productions (Faust in Sibiu, 2007 and A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Tokyo, 2020) and focuses on the stage representation of Mephisto. In both plays there are certain key scenes and also technical means through which the director has coined the character of Mephisto: when making and signing the pact and also when entering or exiting the stage. There is a special focus on the particular place in which the two productions are presented to the public, as part of the techniques of representing Mephisto on stage.
