Summary/Abstract: Aim. The subject of the research was the text of the novel Nibynoc by Jay Kristoff and its translation. The aim was to determine skopos in the translation into Polish. Methods. A comparative analysis was made, mainly of neologisms created by the author, in comparison with Małgorzata Strzelec’s translation. A comprehensive comparison of both works was also made in order to find skopos in the translator’s actions. Results and conclusions. It has been shown that despite a few exceptions, the translator adopted a specific translation method for each type of neologism present in the book. Her goal can be considered as a faithful rendition of the content in the target language. The elements of exoticisation that appeared were intended to allow the reader to have a deeper experience of the fictional world. Cognitive value. Fantasy literature has great research potential, not only in the case of scopos. Addressing the topic of skopos in fantasy literature can inspire the analysis of other literary genres and encourage the search for deeper meaning in the actions taken by translators.
