Summary/Abstract: The main objective of the study is to try to determine the relationship between the development of non ‑agricultural economic activity and the level of socio‑economic development in the area of selected rural communes of the Łódź Voivodeship (Poland). The first part of the article examines the level of development of non‑agricultural economic activity in selected rural communes in 2018 based on 6 selected features. In the second part, the entrepreneurship index was defined as the number of private entities per 1000 people of working age. For this purpose, the average showing the number of private entities in individual rural communes for the years 2014–2018 Was used The last stage was to trace the relationship between the level of development of selected rural communes and the level of entrepreneurship. The paper mainly refers to mathematical and statistical methods (Synthetic Calico index and Pearson correlation indicators), and the source material was obtained from the official statistics of the Central Statistical Office (Local Data Bank). The selection of municipalities was made in a deliberate way, selecting those which in the years 2008–2013 in the research of A. Suliborski and J. Tomczyk (2016) showed the largest and smallest changes in the level of socio‑economic development. The analysis revealed that the level of entrepreneurial development in the studied area is only slightly correlated with the level of socio‑economic development of the areas. Although studies have confirmed this relationship, the obtained size is very small and stati‑stically insignificant. Therefore, the obtained results prove that the development of entrepreneurship is very complex and the sources of its phenomenon should be seen in various factors.
