Summary/Abstract: Among the numerous foreign testimonies mentioning the Romanians during the period 1877-1878, some of the most distinguished are those left behind by the Finnish servicemen who were part of the Russian army or of the Finnish army. Most of the Finnish testimonies are diaries or pieces of diaries of the servicemen that have crossed the Romanian area during the Russian-Turkish wars of 1828-1829 and 1877-1878. A battalion made up exclusively of Finns, which took part to the 1877-1878 war, crossing Romania, is the 3rd battalion of Finnish infantrymen, who were decorated by Carol I with the cross “Trecerea Dunării” (“The Crossing of the Danube”). However, beside this battalion, the Romanian territory was crossed by a large number of Finnish officers who were part of numerous Russian regiments. Among the testimonies left behind about the Romanians, some of the most distinguished were those of Anton von Alfthan, Victor Tuderus, Carl Ferdinand Wahlherg.
