The Image of the Gypsies in Ion Budai Deleanus Epos Ţiganiada

Summary/Abstract: Ion Budai Deleanu is a representative of the Romanian enlightenment and belongs to the so-called Latinists of Transylvania. His major work – the „heroic-comic epic” (he calls it „poem eroic-comic”) Ţiganiada – deals with the defensive struggle of the Romanian Prince Vlad Tepes against the Turks. The Gypsies of Wallachia find themselves in the crossfire and move Prince Vlad III Drăculea with concessions about settling down and supporting him in battle, in which he succeeds only partly, because the Gypsies support sometimes the Turks, sometimes the Romanians, which leads to comic situations.
