Summary/Abstract: Documenting is an extensively usedtermin the work of law enforcement and other government bodies. However, different institution put different meaning is it. Most of them use the term "dcumenting" in its strict sense, namely - recording of the performed activities in a document. In the practice of the operative and search bodies, the term is used to name the process of documenting criminal activity, because it accumulates materials that are the basis for solving all operative-investigative tasks. Documenting makes possible identification, precluding, interception and detection of criminal activity, wich is practically impossible is using mainly procedural acts. This is because the actions of the criminals are secret and covert. This article will briefly discuss the process of documentation in operative-investigative activity (OIA), outlining its essence and its main guidelines.
