Summary/Abstract: Two experiments were conducted aimed at studying possible gender differences in action simulation. The assumption behind the experiments was that mental simulation of actions and events is closely connected with the understanding of these actions and events. We asked the question whether the gender of a participant would modulate the degree of action simulation. Overall, the results of the two experiments suggested that firstly, gender differences are liable to task demands and task focus, and secondly, that the behaviour of men and women is different and may be subject to different mechanisms depending on gender congruency with the observed actor.
