Summary/Abstract: The article endeavours to describe the COVID-19 reality through the lens of a topos of European culture, locus horridus. In analysing and interpreting online news about crimes with the coronavirus either in the foreground or the background, the author checks whether elements of the locus horridus topos have kept pace with the modern day and whether the pandemic has evoked mythical thinking. He presents a typology of pandemic banditry fit for the Olsen Gang, imbued with humour, comedy and cabaret.
