AN ETHNOMUSICOLOGICAL STUDY EXAMPLE: MUSICAL MANIFESTATIONS OF TURKISH IMMIGRANTS

Summary/Abstract: Ethnomusicology analyzes the relation between music and the society more than it does for theoretical aspects of music. The society- music relationship is the field of ethnomusicology in other words comparative musicology which deals with the social aspect of music; while the mission of ethnomusicology is to analyze by grouping the musical-cultural motives, products which are significant for folk songs and fold culture. Ethnomusicological studies, which gained momentum with the field studies that started to be carried out especially in the first years of the republic in Turkey, nowadays continue existing in an interdisciplinary dimension. This study aimed to examine the musical life of Turkish immigrants living in Germany with an ethnomusicological observation. The musical lives and musical traditions of Turkish immigrants have been analyzed in the period from 1961 to the present. Also, the academic researches on the musical lives of Turkish immigrants living in Germany have been included in this study.
