A research about the “meschk” and the method system used to teach Oud in higher education institutions

Summary/Abstract: Turkish musical education relies on the education ages ago, which is handed down from generation to generation called ''meshk'' system was used as an understanding of master-pupil education. This system, although it has some changes due to the time condition, still exists today. This research is based on survey sand interviews about Oud lessons which are taught in ''meshk'' and method system made in Higher Education Institutions which are teaching Turkish music. The paper first focuses on the concept of ''meshk'' system in Turkish musical education, after giving general and historical information about the musical instrument Oud, and the opinions of 14 Artist-Academicians, who are teaching Oud at Higher Education Institutions, about what they think about teaching lessons with ''meshk'' and method system were analyzed. After questions asked to the academicians and in the wake of their feedback, it came to light that ''meshk'' system has an important place in Turkish musical education and from a technical aspect that for a good performance it is useful to follow a method.
