Summary/Abstract: The city of Phoenix, Arizona is an example of a modern metropolis where the white population ceased to be the majority and which is one of the first destinations for migrants coming from Mexico. The city is thus forced to address pressing issues related to the integration of immigrants. This study of the socioeconomic situation of Phoenix and of the public policies implemented by the city’s government is a contribution to a more general debate over the future of U.S. immigration policy. Despite fears voiced by conservative commentators, most social indicators suggest that Phoenix is not an example of disastrous or out‑ of‑ control problems related to its high levels of immigration.
