Summary/Abstract: Since ancient times progress and domination were the main focus for all civilizations. Improvements were made on all levels, from agriculture to mining and refining metals and from warfare tactics to ruling. Law and order were held with severe punishments, for which the human ingenuity was used at its best or at its worst, in order to inflict extreme pain and suffering for the condemned before a shameful death. Empires and kingdoms rose and felt but the wicked ways of torture were passed on and “improved” over the centuries for the suffering of the condemned. In this regard, the most famous form of execution, as one can think of instantly, is crucifixion. This is due, to the crucifixion of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the new meaning of the cross as a sign of victory. Our Lord was not the first one to be Crucified and also not the last one. As this study is focusing on the evolution of the practice and the customs that were related to this gruesome practice during its implementation over the centuries.
