Summary/Abstract: Since ancient times progress and domination were themain focus for all civilizations. Improvements were made on alllevels, from agriculture to mining and refining metals and fromwarfare tactics to ruling. Law and order were held with severepunishments, for which the human ingenuity was used at its best orat its worst, in order to inflict extreme pain and suffering for thecondemned before a shameful death. Empires and kingdoms rose andfelt but the wicked ways of torture were passed on and “improved”over the centuries for the suffering of the condemned. In this regard, the most famous form of execution, as one can think of instantly, iscrucifixion. This is due, to the crucifixion of our Lord and SaviorJesus Christ and the new meaning of the cross as a sign of victory. Our Lord was not the first one to be Crucified and also not the lastone. As this study is focusing on the evolution of the practice and thecustoms that were related to this gruesome practice during itsimplementation over the centuries.
