Summary/Abstract: In the Bible, locusts are associated mainly with the plagues of Egypt. The New Testament describes John the Baptist feeding on them. The problem appears in Church Slavonic-Polish dictionaries. The words for locusts also have a second, floral meaning. Most likely, the Slavic translators and lexicographers had doubts about what John the Baptist was eating. Given the realities of the Middle East, both possibilities are likely. The author concludes that these doubts about the text are difficult to resolve today.
