Summary/Abstract: The article examines the domestic and foreign policy prerequisites for the establishment of the Democratic Accord and the political forces that took part in the formation of the new party in August 1923. The basic provisions in the programme and statute of the Democratic Accord are analysed. Information is supplied about the number of party members and of the party organizations in the country, as well as about the most outstanding politicians, members of the leadership of the Accord. Stress is laid on the home policy of the first government of the Democratic Accord which contributed to its removal. The organizational and political development of the Democratic Accord party is followed up during the eight years up to its fall from power. The development of the cabinet crises, the relations of the Democratic Accord with the head of state, the Military Alliance and the political parties of the opposition are surveyed. Important aspects of the policy of the Democratic Accord regimes and the attitude of the Great Powers and the neighbouring states to them are considered.
