Summary/Abstract: Attention is paid in the article to the events in Bulgarian home political life in 1947. That was the year in which the anticommunist opposition was dealt with as an organized force. It was resorted to all methods for its defeat: from the expulsion of opposition MPs from the National Assembly to the detention and execution of its prominent representatives. Set against the background of these tragic processes are show the British policy and reaction to the profound and acute political changes in Bulgarian society. The actions of the British representatives in Sofia - political and military – are followed up and the evaluations made and decisions taken at the highest level in the British capital are indicated. The author's general assessment is that the anticommunist circles in Bulgaria did not receive for one or other reason an effective and firm support from Great Britain.
