Transformations of the Press Law in Slovakia

Summary/Abstract: The Slovak press law of 2008 became a significant step in the transformation of the media space in Slovakia. After many years the new law replaced the original, nine-time-amended press law of 1966, which was outdated and did not reflect the current needs of journalists, periodical publishers or press agencies. The press law has been amended several times since 2008. This paper presents individual amendments and tries to compare them in order to clearly define the changes that have occurred in the development of the Slovak press law. The paper also describes the changes that await media legislation in 2022.
