Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on the problem of conversion in the Italian language, id e. the change of word-class without addition of an affix. The presence of this very economical process of derivation is marginalized in the papers dedicated to the word-formation in Italian. Our paper will treat different forms of conversion, from nominalization of verbs, adjectives and adverbs to numerous forms of shifting from verb, noun and adverb to adjective and other word-classes to prepositions, adverbs and exclamations. The paper will attempt to prove that this type of derivation is far more productive in Italian than it is demonstrated in literature.
