Summary/Abstract: The essay is a comparison of the two short texts by Polish-British ethnographer Bronisław Malinowski and Mircea Eliade, respectively fragments of so called English journal written by young Malinowski as a student in London School of Economics and Fals jurnal de bord in which Eliade, travelling to India, described a first stage of his journey. Both texts are difficult to classify. They bring a lot of anthropological observations made by the two beginners in social sciences, but, at the same time, they are refined literary works, as well. Malinowski used impressionist technique, Eliade demystified realistic convention of diary, by treating reality as literary fiction.
