Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to take on the case of Recnik Mali(1793) and show that lexicographical work can display an image of reality of a society at a given time. A cultural analysis of the everyday life of Serbs in southern Hungary at the end of the eighteenth century was made based on this dictionary, and also the lexicon which were used at the time is analyzed, its origins, meaning, usage, and lexical competition. One of the aims was to observe the lexicon from today’s perspective and to draw attention to the process of narrowing, widening, alteration, disappearance or survival of the meanings of lexemes in time.
