Summary/Abstract: The article provides a survey of selected theories and methodologies of new media studies. The author finds in them posthumanist potential allowing to think of technologies as agencies. Such a perspective is an attempt at overcoming an impasse the media studies have entered since the polemics between M. McLuhan and R. Williams. In order to consider media human cooperators (and not only tools), one needs to revise the division between culture and nature and reconsider the notion of agency. Bruno Latour’s actor-network theory provides a useful background for non-anthropocentric media studies. It is in the method itself that one can find an inspiration with media beings.
