Summary/Abstract: Jargons appeared rather early in language. They might be regarded as the continuants of secret languages. Modern times consider them to be the language of the young, and they are named accordingly. Their origin is frequently related to other languages. Moreover, they reflect the culture of the surrounding they originate from. This paper studies the jargons of the young people in Serbia through the prism of multiculturalism and multilingualism and the examples taken from the Serbian language, and is based on the lexical inventory from the published dictionaries of jargons. The study shows that one of the sources of jargons present in this language is to some extent identical (anglicisms, in recent times), whereas other sources of jargons reflect social and historical settings and circumstances.
