Summary/Abstract: By combining photography with conversational narratives on the deceased by the locals, the aim of the paper was to demonstrate that full (or, at least, fuller) documentation is achieved only by combining the material data with contemporary narratives on the deceased, which would enable researchers to truly comprehend what, or who, is viewed as imortant in a given community – something one can hardly obtain from photography and history alone. The data used in the analysis was collected in contemporary Timiş county – more specifically in the villages of Varjaš / Variaş and Čanad / Cenad – in June 2016, within the research project headed by the Union of Serbs from Romania.
