Summary/Abstract: Ethnomusicological field research was conducted in Timisoara on 11–12th July 2016 was focused on tamburitza orchestras and their playing/singing of “starogradska muzika” (old urban music). Several semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with Serbian informants who are relevant practitioners of local folk music. In this paper, special attention is devoted to vocal-instrumental ensembles “Generacija” from Timisoara and “Zlatna suza” from village Dinias. Their existence and performed musical repertoire is here analysed through the theoretical framework of nostalgia – longing for distant home or for previous times, as Svetlana Boym defined.
