LEXICOGRAPHIC TRACES OF LANGUAGE AND CULURAL CONTACTS OF SERBS WITH OTHER ETHNICS IN XIX CENTURY

Summary/Abstract: Serbian bilingual dictionaries that were created in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries are the treasures of not only linguistic but also cultural information about the life of Serbs in the border areas of the Habsburg monarchy. This paper presents our current studies of some of these dictionaries, and also from the linguistic and cultural perspective analyze proverbs presented in Besedovnik, book by Vićentije Rakic of 1810. The aim is to do the lexical and cultural analysis of proverbs, as well as point out the specifics of some proverbs that might indicate some Serbian and Italian cultural ties at the beginning of XIX century.
