Summary/Abstract: The researcher of long standing of the work of Vassil Levski in his latest scholarly writings reaches the conclusion that Priest (Pop) Krustyo did not betray Levski but was en informer of the Turkish authorities. Entering into polemics with Prof. Dimitar Panchovski in connection with his work “Vassil Levski’s Last Days”, N. Kondarev convincingly disproves the thesis that Priest Krustyo was innocent. On the basis of documentary material N. Kondarev shows that Priest Krustyo had for a long time been the "eye and ear" of the Turkish authorities in the town of Lovech, that he had written reports to the Turks about the events in the town. He was arrested but for just a single day after which he was released and never sought again. N. Kondarev believes that in the Bulgarian learned literature the role of Priest Krustyo as an informer of the Turkish authorities has not yet been clarified in sufficient detail, while the attempts of D. Panchovski in his latest work to free his from guilt are not well backed and defended and do not correspond to the facts in the Turkish documents.
